Hi UK! Ricky Gervais uses an expression on "The Office" that sounds like "oy" as in "Oy Brent".

The Office The Office depicts the common lives of office staff and employees in the Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of the fictitious Dunder Mifflin Paper Company. The primary flow of the show is with a camera crew that decided to film the inner workings at Dunder Mifflin, around the clock.

It seems to be another way in which to say "Hey Brent!" though I cant be certain. What is the word he is using and what are its origins?

It's just his accent.
He is saying hi.

OK, give me a break...
maybe I was wrong...
Ok... certainly I was wrong!
My most humble apologies!

It's an abbreviation of the old navel term "Ahoy". It was used to catch the attention of crew members.

The word is 'Oi'

Oi, is a British and Australian working class slang interjection used to get someones attention, or to express surprise or disapproval.
