Where can I find cool medical cases to read, like those on the TV show"House MD"??

House MD Gregory House, M.D., is a medical genius with a antisocial complex who leads a group of diagnosticians at the New Jersey hospital, Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. The beginning of each episode starts with a cold open somewhere outside the hospital, showing a series of events leading to the symptoms for that episode's main patient. The episode is about a group in their attempts to find diagnoses and treat the patient's problems and most of the time they usually solve the issues when the patients health is critical.

I'm interested in writing a fanfiction, with a new/different case than the ones already shown in the episodes of House, MD. I don't know what keywords to use to search for them on Google. Can someone help me find a webpage filled with interesting medical cases, including symptoms, treatment, and medical term for the illnesses/diseases???Thx

Try running your searches for"rare syndromes","rare diseases"and"rare disorders". The key word is RARE. House, MD is a ridiculously improbable show with residents running around doing everything without nurses and all the patients having the rarest, most unusual conditions.

You look up many diseases on emedicine.com. As a resident, I look up many diseases on emedicine. UPTODATE.com is also another medical website that is popular with the medical and surgical residents. However, uptodate website is not free. Wikipedia also is great with references and links to sound medical websites.

Try books by Oliver Sacks....The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat is a 1985 book by neurologist Oliver Sacks describing the case histories of some of his patients. The title of the book comes from the case study of a man with visual agnosia. The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat became the basis of an opera of the same name by Michael Nyman, which premiered in 1986.The other essays in this book include:"The Lost Mariner", about Jimmie G., who has lost the ability to form new memories due to Korsakoff's syndrome. He can remember nothing of his life since his demobilization at the end of WWII, including events that happened only a few minutes ago, and must struggle to form an identity. (The main character of the film Memento has a similar condition)"The President's Speech"- about a ward of aphasiacs and agnosiacs listening to a speech given by an unnamed actor-president,"the old Charmer". Each group noticed flaws in the president's content and presentation respectively, flaws which escaped the notice of'normal'people."The Disembodied Lady"- a unique case of a woman losing her entire sense of proprioception (the sense of the position of parts of the body, relative to other neighbouring parts of the body)."On The Level"- another case involving damaged proprioception. Dr. Sacks interviews a patient who has trouble walking upright and discovers that he has lost his innate sense of balance due to Parkinson's-like symptoms that have damaged his inner ears; the patient, comparing his sense of balance to a carpenter's spirit level, suggests the construction of a similar level inside a pair of glasses, which enables him to judge his balance by sight."The Twins"- about autistic savants. Dr. Sacks tries to connect with twin brothers by joining their game of finding very large prime numbers. He cheats and uses a book; neither of them can read or even do multiplication. They instantly count 111 dropped matches simultaneously noticing that 111 is three 37s. This event, with toothpicks in place of matches, and other of Dr. Sacks's observations on autistic savants[citation needed], were used in the film Rain Man, starring Dustin Hoffman.

Medical conditions like the ones on House MD are unheard of. They are fake! Rare medical conditions are rare. Visit any local library or book store and look for medical conditions or medical cases.

^ Go to medical sites like webmd.com and put in illnesses or diseases and they will come up with a list. If you google medical sites you will get a bunch. You can also go to google type in diseases of the spine, heart etc and you will get sites you can check out. I hope this helps. Good luck.
