What happened to NBC's show Friday Night Lights?

I know there was debate as to whether NBC would bring it back...but what's this that THERE IS a third season and this about airing it on DIRECTV?

They worked out a deal with DirecTV. The series just started airing on DirecTV, for subscribers only. It will air on NBC in January.

The show was renewed for a 13-episode third season; episodes will first air on DirecTV's The 101 in the fall and then be rebroadcast on NBC in the winter.
