Whitney Port’s New Gig- Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend

While The City may have been cancelled, Whitney Port is still keeping busy.
The fashion designer is adding “host” to her resume, as she will be the frontwoman for the web reality series Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend.
The show will feature eight guys ages 21-30 competing to prove they have the qualities of the “ultimate boyfriend for every occassion” in elimination challenges such as surfing, a talent show and a fashion challenge — judged by a line-up of celebrity guest judges.
Whitney blogged: Hi my loves,
“As some of you may have heard, I’ve signed on to host the new reality series, “Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend.” The purpose of the show is to find a guy that embodies all of the qualities of Barbie’s longtime boyfriend, Ken.
Today is the first day of filming and I was so nervous this morning because I’ve never hosted something before. I called my mom and she just totally eased my nerves (I’m still such a mama’s girl haha). So I hung up the phone, gave myself a little pep talk, and I was good to go. Genuine Ken will run for eight episodes and premiere on Hulu on Tuesday, January 18.

This dramedy centers around the character of Shawn Spencer, who has the ability to see a situation for more than it’s worth. Basically he has been trained since birth to be very astute and notice things around him by his interesting detective dad. When he is accused of committing a crime he helped the police solve via a phone tip, he convinces the police he’s psychic and that they need his services. With the help of his best friend Gus, Shawn is hired to help the police solve crimes. He has a certain flare in his ability to turn his all-seeing eye into a dramatic re-enactment of how the crimes went down. I’m definitely interesting in watching more episodes and seeing how he manages to keep his charade up.

Hill Harper Attends the President’s National Finance Committee

Hill Harper recently attended the a thank dinner for the President’s National Finance Committee. The dinner was “thank you from Obama and the Democratic National Committee to members of his presidential campaign’s national finance committee and members of the DNC’s National Advisory Board.” * I’m not sure if Hill served on the finance committee (I think he did) but he was a huge supporter of the president from the beginning of his campaign.

“We knew from the start that change wouldn’t be easy. But we also understood we were living in extraordinary times and that we’ve been asked to confront challenges of a size and a scope that hadn’t been seen in recent history –- a set of challenges that few generations of Americans have ever been asked to confront: two wars, a debilitating recession, a global financial crisis, a crisis that faces the planet when it comes to climate change.

And we understood that meeting these challenges was going to require some tough choices. It required us to do what was right, even if it wasn’t necessarily always popular — at least not at first. It required taking on the status quo in Washington that unfortunately tends to favor inertia over action, and tinkering over real reform. And we knew that it would require looking beyond the next news cycle and the next election to the next generation; to do what we had to do to ensure that our children and grandchildren inherit an America that is as ascendant, as bold, as imaginative as the America that we inherited from our parents.

Now, that’s not just a responsibility. Meeting these challenges is a privilege and an opportunity, for in our hands lies the chance to shape the world for good and for ill. “
